Before breaking up for the half-term holidays, many of Year 4 attended the annual Key Stage 2 Halloween disco where there were some creepy costumes and devilish dance moves on show. Take a look at some of the photographs from the evening – don’t worry – we won’t bite!
On Thursday 18th November, Year 4, along with children from a number of other schools, took part in a music event called ‘Crazy Composers’ at Walsall Town Hall. Children learnt how to play a piece of music and performed along with a professional orchestra called The English Concert Orchestra. This was a great achievement as Year 4 are only just beginning to learn how to play their brass instruments.
This week, Year 4 have been doing some excellent work based on addition. We have been using column methods to carry out addition calculations with and without renaming. We have also been using place value counters, base ten materials, pictures and descriptions to show our understanding. Please take a look at some of our working out.
In Year 4, we have been learning about life during World War 2, including what people did to protect themselves during air raids. In PE, Year 4 have been listening to sound clips such as the Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain announcing that war had begun; sound effects of bomber planes and bombs exploding and sounds of people in air raid shelters.
The class have then been using body movements, poses and facial expressions to act out an air raid scene in order to create a group dance. The actions have included: reacting to the news that the country is at war; hearing an air raid siren; grabbing their gas mask; making their way into their shelter; listening to the sound of bombs and spending a night inside the shelter.
Here are some of our poses and movements so far.
Can you work out what is happening in each picture?
